This time last year, we were predicting big things for Kane as understudy to Aaron Gorrell. However, when Gorrell got injured, Casey McGuire was preferred to fill in with Adam Mogg filling in at half-back and it worked so well, who were we to complain? What it did do was hold Kane back a bit after a 2007 where he'd hit the ground running. In 2009, there appears to be only one person to cover any injury to Casey and that's Kane, who has bided his time, kept working hard with UTC and kept on giving notice to his abilities.
Perhaps with more game time in 2008, Kane might have realised his international ambitions with one of the many nations he qualifies for. Born in New Zealand to Samoan and New Zealand parents, he has a Scottish grandmother as well as qualifying for France, what with being a French citizen and all that. Still a young man, he's got plenty of time ahead of him to make the jump from fringe squad member to key player to international hooker.
